The new iPad Pro and Air should finally be released shortly, the Apple firm having suffered delays in the development of their dedicated software. After 18 months of waiting, these devices should offer significant improvements.
Once again, the release date of the new iPads is becoming clearer. Our sincerest apologies; initial information pointed towards a release in March, which we report to you in the linked article at the end of January. It's the end of the month, and still nothing! It ultimately turns out that Apple has fallen behind in the development of dedicated software and will only release these new models a little later.
Bloomberg reports that Apple's contractors are now ramping up production of these long-awaited new iPads. The launch would thus be planned for early May 2024, according to the sources of the famous journalist Mark Gurman, a specialist at the Apple firm.
What will the new iPad Pro and Air models offer?
The planned improvements are significant for these new iPads:
- For the iPad Pro, which has not had an update since 2018, a new OLED screen is on the menu. This new panel will allow a clear display with better contrast and deeper blacks. In addition, the tablet will be available in three versions (probably depending on their dimensions), all powered by the M3 chip present in MacBooks.
- The iPad Air was entitled to an update more recently, in 2022. This will be entitled to a new, larger 12.9-inch screen. He too will be entitled to a new, unspecified processor for the moment, probably the M2.
Both models are said to have a repositioned TrueDepth camera. It will make Face ID appear on top when the device is held in landscape mode, a long-standing request from iPad owners. Enough to completely shake up our ranking of the best iPad models in 2024.
A simultaneous update of the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard would also be planned. The keyboard should get a sturdier aluminum frame that will make the iPad Pro almost look like a laptop.
Updating these new models is urgent. It has now been more than a year since Apple released a new iPad model, a first since the release of the first two generations of the tablet in 2010 and 2011. Obviously, sales are affected: in the last quarter of 2023, iPad revenue was $7.02 billion, down 25% from 2022.
